Think AC Maintenance When It’s Time to Spring Forward

|

Maintenance on your air conditioning system is vital for so many reasons, but with the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can often be forgotten. If you want to keep your home cool in the summer the best time to address any issues with your air conditioner is in the spring. Here’s a quick list of things to check to get you started:

  • Make sure your filter is clean. If you have a washable filter remove it and wash it thoroughly with water. Allow it to dry completely before putting it back into place. Filters should be changed monthly for disposable types.
  • Check your drain line. There should be water continuously coming out of the drain line outside while the air conditioner is running. If there isn’t that is an indication there could be an obstruction that can back up and cause a mess.
  • Rinse your outdoor condenser coil. The outside unit should be free of debris, leaves, and dirt. Rinsing it with a garden hose will help create better airflow.
  • Check the programming of your thermostat. If you have a programmable thermostat make sure the time and temperatures are correct for your desired comfort.

The most convenient and thorough way to maintain your air conditioning system is by using a professionally licensed air conditioning company. In addition to the items listed above they should check all of the components of both the indoor and outdoor units, including the refrigerant levels and clear the drain line of any debris.
