Rebates and incentives are something that can take the pain out of buying a new HVAC unit. When you’re having to pay a few thousand dollars to have a new system installed, a rebate can make the burden on your bank account a little lighter.
Typical energy-saving rebates tied to purchasing a new HVAC system can be a few hundred dollars or over a thousand in some cases. But not all homeowners know they’re out there or which ones are pertinent to their type of unit or city of residence.
We know that a new heating and air-conditioning system is a major expense for most families and it’s also a vital need and not something anyone can do without when their current unit goes out. That’s why Air Tech of Central Florida offers HVAC financing to our customers, helping them afford the HVAC unit they desperately need.
Another service we provide along with efficient, NATE-certified HVAC installation in Orlando and central Florida is helping homeowners take advantage of any local or national heat pump rebates that they qualify for.
Navigating HVAC rebates and how to apply for them isn’t always easy and they can be something of a moving target. Some rebates get discontinued, new ones are offered, and it can be hard to know if there is more than one that you qualify for.
In this article, we’ll give you a rundown of the current HVAC energy efficiency rebates being offered in Orange and Seminole counties, including from your local power company, Energy Star, and any others out there.
HVAC/Heat Pump Rebates for Residents of Orange or Seminole Counties
You’ll notice when you go to apply for one, that many of the rebates require a minimum SEER rating on a particular HVAC unit. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating, and it’s tied to the energy efficiency of an HVAC unit.
SEER measures the ratio of cooling output of an air conditioner over the typical cooling season (which is longer than most in Florida) and divides that by the energy consumed in Watt-Hours. The higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the unit is.
Here are the current rebates you may qualify for if you’re a central Florida resident.
Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC)
OUC offers up to $2,000 of both energy and water efficiency upgrades through their Energy Delivered® program. This includes things like energy efficient window films, windows, and more.
Their Heat Pump Rebate requires a copy of the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) Certificate or Reference Number and is for units with a SEER rating of 15 or higher.
Rebate amount: From $90 to $1,630, depending upon unit

Duke Energy
Duke Energy’s rebate requirements note both the SEER and Heating Season Performance Factor (HSPF) ratings. For both, the higher the number, the more rebate money you receive.
Rebate amount: From $200 to $800

Rebate amount: $150
